—Created by Ismar David in 1955
He considered one of the few graphic designers, illustrators, and calligraphers of international reputation. Ismar David belonged to a group of accomplished calligraphers who established themselves as jacket designers in New York in the 1950s. He is noted for his brilliant work in Hebrew and Latin calligraphy, lettering, and type design, as well as for his distinctive linear style of illustration. David’s jacket designs are distinguished from other work of the period as powerful and expressive. His style is informed by a thorough mastery of the typographic tradition yet looks remarkably fresh, even today.
